What’s in the Syllables to Sentences Guide?

The “Syllables to Sentences” guide if different from our other language arts guides in that it only has eighteen weeks.  The companion to this program that follows this guide is “Paragraphs to Pages.”  Both of these guides have been arranged in an eighteen week format to provide more flexibility for parents teaching their students to read.

All students progress at different rates through the process of learning to read.  Some require more time on certain letters, phonograms, or concepts as they struggle with one over another.  In many cases students learn to read very rapidly and quickly progress through the small stages.  We feel that creating two separate language arts programs make it very easy for the parents of any early reader to use these guides in the best way possible for their student.  These eighteen week language arts programs can be done on schedule; completed together in one school year.  Or, if your student needs to review a certain concept then feel free to spend time on it and complete the two programs over the course of a calendar year.

This program pulls together several great resources. This guide schedules: reading, directed letter formation practice pages, handwriting practice, spelling, phonics workbooks, beginning sight word identification and practice, spelling activities and games, phonics activities and games, and simple vocabulary. Much of this is accomplished through the Pine Nut Park Workbooks. Teaching notes and instructions on how-to-use are included in this guide along with handwriting originals that can be copied for multiple uses. Alternate game ideas using the “Hands-On” Phonics Pack are also added to this guide along with other suggested weekly activities.  Using the hands-on games and flashcards along with the fun phonetically focused readers, Pine Nut Park Reader Set, your student will quickly progress in their ability to decode and read through this fun program.

Skip in Pine Nut Park Workbook A:

As students read from their Pine Nut Park Readers, they will encounter the same weekly phonogram or blend focus in their phonics workbooks.  These workbooks will focus on using words from their readers which will help student to decode and identify these words better.  Along with there phonics pages they will also study word families.  Learning about word families and the commonalities between words with similar letters is essential at this time of developing decoding skills in reading.  Working on word families also increases their memorized vocabulary which means they can then read more words by simply seeing them.

Each week students will average 4-6 worksheets to complete a week, some weeks may have more.  This program includes additional review and learning opportunities in the back of the Syllables to Sentences Guide which can be done in addition to the worksheets to increase the amount of work for more advanced students.

Pranks in Pine Nut Park Workbook B:

Just as in Workbook A, these workbooks will focus on using words from their readers which will help student to decode and identify these words better.

What is in the Syllables to Sentences Readers Set?

This resource is for students ready to read sentences with some guidance.  Through weekly phonetic focused reading passages and workbooks, your student will be ready by the end of this program to read sentences on their own and with some to no guidance on the short paragraphs.  This full-color reader set begins a new reading adventure through the stories that your student will read in our early reading language arts.

They will meet Mac and learn of his adventures in Pine Nut Park.  You will meet his best friend, a bat.  Students will also read about the dangers of living in a park – terrible rats and angry horned hogs!  Your student will enjoy reading these stories and may even ask to read ahead, as they are left wondering what will happen next!
